Being Star Struck
Definition - ' feeling or showing great interest in and admiration for famous people'
When I heard that a celebrity cook was in town, I could not miss the opportunity of a book signing and possible photo opportunity! I grabbed my copy of ‘Preserving Italy’ and headed into Bisenti to see if I could spot her. She was enjoying a quiet lunch with family but graciously signed my book and posed for a selfie!
Domenica Marchetti, author of 7 cookbooks, grew up in an Italian family. Her mother is a native of Chieti, Abruzzo. She had her and herself shaping gnocchi and ravioli by the time they could see over the kitchen counter. Her father’s parents were from Molise and Lazio. They spent their summers travelling all around Italy when she was growing up, and she returned often for work and for inspiration.
“Food is at the centre of Italian family life and I have probably spent the majority of my hours on this earth in kitchens and around dinner tables, cooking, eating, talking, arguing, and socializing. The food I make is the food I love to eat and feed others: simple, honest dishes that reflect my heritage.”
Domenica offers occasional small-group, custom culinary tours and workshops. Her goal is to give her guests a true Italian experience and to shine a light on the food and wine artisans whose hard work and dedication keep Italian food traditions alive and thriving. Check her website for details.
Thanks so much for your kind words about my work. I remember that day well ~ delightful!
